Redefining modern luxury: A 5-room resale flat transformation

At Yuan Interior Design, we pride ourselves on delivering bespoke solutions that blend functionality with elegance. In this project, we revitalised a 5-room resale flat at 694C Woodlands for a couple and their primary school-aged daughter. The result is a contemporary home exuding modern luxury and practicality, with every detail crafted to suit the family’s needs.

Design Highlights
Hallway, dining area and living room
The entryway was designed with practicality and style in mind. To hide the bomb shelter, we created a sleek feature wall that blends seamlessly with the overall design. A shoe cabinet with a display section provides a convenient space for keys and letters while maintaining a clean aesthetic.
The dining area features a mirrored wall that enhances spatial depth and elegance. In the living room, a modern altar doubles as a sophisticated display, offering a contemporary twist on tradition.
Kitchen
We redefined the kitchen into a space that is functional and stylish. The original island lacked utility, so we transformed it into a T-shaped island design. This new layout provides a dedicated dining area on one side and ample preparation space on the other. LED lighting beneath the beams enhances the ambience. At the same time, a curved detail around the kitchen island softens the overall look, adding a refined and elegant touch to the open-plan design.
On the opposite wall, we closed off a window to create space for a fridge, additional storage, and a wine cellar. A small pantry area above the wine fridge adds even more functionality, turning the kitchen into a hub of efficiency and elegance. This standout kitchen design seamlessly combines style with practicality, offering the perfect balance for both daily use and entertaining guests.
Common Bathroom
To enhance the practicality of the shared bathroom, we divided it into wet and dry areas. The sink area was equipped with top and bottom cabinets, maximising storage while keeping the design clean and clutter-free.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom was transformed into a luxurious retreat. The walk-in wardrobe concept was created by concealing the bathroom entrance within a custom feature wall. This design maintains a streamlined and cohesive aesthetic while providing ample storage and functionality.
The Role of Lighting in Modern Luxury
Black was a prominent colour in this design, but with well-planned lighting, it never feels overwhelming. Carefully placed lighting highlights the rich textures and details of the design, ensuring the space remains warm and inviting despite its darker tones.

Bomb shelter concealment:
A sleek feature wall seamlessly hides the bomb shelter, maintaining the design’s flow and aesthetics.
Redesigning the kitchen island:
By converting the underutilised island into a T-shaped design, we maximised its functionality and created a versatile dining and meal preparation hub.

Concealing the entrance with a feature wall allowed for a streamlined and polished look without sacrificing accessibility.
